The most common setting is the prong setting. The diamond or gem is placed on the center and is usually protrudes and placed in what seems like a basket. There are claws, three or more which holds the gem or stone in place. This setting allows a great deal of light to enter the gem, therefore increasing its shine and brilliance.

The bar setting is more or less like the prong setting but instead of claws, the prongs are fused together in order to make a bar that holds the gems and rock into place. This setting holds a much secure setting, also highlighting the metal instead of the gems.

If there are actually some flaws on your chosen gems, you can opt for a bezel setting. A bezel setting is actually famous for masking out minor flaws in a gem. This setting is also the most durable between all the settings. The metal band is wrapped around the gems to hold them in place.

Another secure setting is the flush setting. There is a tapered hold made from which the stone or gems rest and then metal is pressed around the gem to secure it. This setting actually gives the ring a sleek and smooth appearance.
